Color Curate is my most recent subscription box that is hosted (?) by So Susan. For $20.95 per month, they will send four full-sized beauty items plus a limited edition makeup bag. This subscription box had me hooked on “full size”. It is difficult to find an affordable makeup subscription that has full sized items and fits in a budget. This specific box caught my attention by having a colorful selection and a reward point system as well as a store on the website. It seems a bit pricey for only four products but the selection seems to make up for the price. Color Curate prides itself on sending out items that are 100% cruelty-free. As far as I have researched there is no variation between individual bags for a specific month.
Let’s get to the items!
This month’s bag was styled with flamingos that are shaped like flowers. The quote is very motivational and can be applied to all aspects of life. It is cute and adorable. The feel f this bag seems sturdy, even though some seams look a little looser than the others. Even though it is a limited edition bag, I do not count it as one of the items.
1. Hummingbird palette in “Ocean Dreams” by Jelly Pong Pong
Yay for an eyeshadow palette! Out of all the things I get in subscription palettes I think eyeshadow palettes are my favorite. Or any eyeshadow in general. I know that my eyeshadow drawer hates me because it can handle only so much, but I can always get a shelf as an expansion, right?
The colors are a gorgeous selection of cool tones that are fit just for winter. I don’t know why fall was skipped completely but I am not complaining. Unfortunately the pans with “White Horses” were popped out. No loss there, I was able to glue them back into place.
2. Skin Spectre by So Susan
I am so excited to get a skin primer in a subscription box! This one was so tiny and adorable. It has a gel consistency that leaves the skin feeling very soft. I am a lot shocked at the price tag. This little, tiny tube of product is valued at $26!
3. Glow Icing highlighter duo by Trifle Cosmetics
At first glance, the shades seemed to be very dark, but once they were swatched they came out to look very flattering. I am not a fan of companies putting two different shades in a pan that is split. It would be different if the shades were at least a little separated.
4. Bon Bon Bling in shade “Chia Pudding” by Trifle Cosmetics
I am yet to build myself to a level where I would be comfortable with loose pigment. I tend to get the powder everywhere. This is a very dark, gray shade with dark glitter. It looks very nice when used to smoke out a wing.
So let’s get to the overview
The palette definitely should have been the last item I pulled out of the bag and played with. Despite the pan falling out of place, I found this to be my favorite item in this month’s selection. My least favorite item had to be the loose pigment because I don’t think I am skilled enough to use it well.
- Hummingbird palette in “Ocean Dreams” by Jelly Pong Pong – $35
- Skin Spectre by So Susan – $26
- Glow Icing highlighter duo by Trifle Cosmetics – $19
- Bon Bon Bling in shade “Chia Pudding” by Trifle Cosmetics – $15
- Limited edition makeup bag – $12
The total value of all of the item’s for September 2018 is $107. This is amazing, considering that the cost of the bag is only a fraction of the value. This is why I am all for subscription boxes. THey are a great way to expand a makeup collection for a lot less than retail.
