Tarte 18th Birthday mystery box unboxing

I am pretty sure that I have said it before, but I just love surprises! In celebration of Tarte’s 18th birthday, they came out with a 5 piece mystery box for $35. As soon as I saw it in my email I went right to their website and placed an order without a moment of hesitation. I think mystery boxes are just so neat! Yes, some of the items could not be what is hoped for, but they are always so much fun. For this specific one, I am not sure if all the items were the same or if they were randomly chosen for each order. Come to think of it, it probably would be a good idea to test out in the future.

On to the items!

When I read the description I did not realize that a makeup pouch would be one of the items. On the other hand, it was never mentioned that it would only contain makeup items.

1. Lifted Sweatproof mascara

This would be the first waterproof mascara that I owned in a long time. I am yet to use it, but I heard good things about it.

2. The Lip Sculptor Lipstick & Lipgloss in shade Cartwheel

After looking through their lippies I realized that this lipstick and gloss combo is a limited edition shade. It is described as a coral but it leans more to a very nude. The formula is very moisturizing and it stays on the lips for longer than most drugstore brand lip products.

3. Tarteist Lip Crayon in shade Magic Wand

Right off the bat, I got to say that this color is way too dark to be paired up with the shade of the Lip Sculptor. Other than that I do find this liner easy to apply, but I do not think that it is any better than others that I have tried.

4. Tartelette Tease clay eyeshadow palette

All the shades are very wearable and easy to apply. They feel nice o the skin and are buildable. I am very happy to receive this palette. It is nearly impossible to mess up a look with these shadows.

So let’s get to the overview!

I decided not to include the makeup bag in the unboxing mostly because I could not find it on the website. I still consider it as one of the items because it was never stated that the 5 items will be exclusively makeup items. I am happy that this mystery box had all the items to create a look, and that there were no repeats in the type of products.

  • Lifted Sweatproof mascara – $23
  • The Lip Sculptor Lipstick & Lipgloss in shade Cartwheel – $24
  • Tarteist Lip Crayon in shade Magic Wand – $12
  • Tartelette Tease clay eyeshadow palette – $19

The total value of this mystery box is $78, plus the value of the makeup pouch. Overall, this was a very decently composed mystery box. One thing that I did not like was that the liner and lipstick/gloss shades were so different. Otherwise, the looks that can be created with only these items would be on the neutral side. I really hope that more makeup companies will start coming out with mystery boxes once in a while. They will have at least one customer that would keep coming back.
